You took the words right out of my mouth. Some shows were also school demo shows for intermediate and high schools to help spread the sport. The riders(factory) would do original flatland tricks and also use different size quarter pipes to air out or do lip tricks. Pretty much spontaneous and some planning. This ramp routine carried on? for awhile. Wilkerson, McCoy, Voelker , Hoffman etc. rode like this all the time.

Back then, all the AFA contests used quarter pipes. The first contests on half pipes were the 2HIP contests starting in 1986 or 87. They were typically held at skateparks, although there were some where they just built the whole half pipe in the arena. You? gotta remember, this stuff was pretty new then, so it wasn’t like there was tens of thousands of dollars from big sponsors to build a temporary skatepark.
