Motorcycle Accident Near Hollister Severely Injures Biker

Article by Joel McLaughlin

According to California Highway Patrol, an accident on highway 156 near Hollister involving a truck and motorcycle severely injured the driver of the bike. The driver of the motorcycle crashed into the back of the truck when he was unable to stop the bike after traffic slowed. He was eastbound on highway 156 when the accident occurred, and was thrown off of his bike which resulted in severe injuries. The man was airlifted to a hospital in the Bay Area.

The speed of the motorcycle at the time the accident occurred is still unknown. Sometimes accidents that involve motorcycles are caused due to the negligence of other drivers, and in some cases the driver of the motorcycle may be practicing unsafe driving habits which results in an accident. Motorcycles give the driver a feeling of freedom and independence, which they often use to drive in between cars and go around heavy traffic. Unfortunately, many motorists cannot see these bikes when they are in certain areas, and it may result in an accident. Drivers of motorcycles should realize these facts and take them in to consideration.

Those who ride motorcycles often also travel at high rates of speed. While it may seem thrilling or exhilarating to fly down the highway at high speeds, impact with a vehicle can be deadly. Riders are often thrown many feet when these types of accidents occur, resulting in severe injury, head injuries, or even death. In inclement weather, motorists have an even greater degree of difficulty seeing motorcycles, so bike riders should be aware of these facts and drive in a careful manner.

Road surfaces and the designs of some roads may be a contributing factor when it comes to motorcycle accidents. If the roads are not maintained sufficiently, rough patches may cause skidding or flipping. When there are not enough road signs warning of sharp curves, this also increases the likelihood of an accident. Adequate lighting of roads and highways is also necessary to insure that the driver of a motorcycle can see his surroundings clearly.

San Jose motorcycle accident lawyers are still highly concerned about motorcycle fatality rates. By educating drivers and increasing awareness, accident rates may be reduced. Presently, people above the age of 50 make up a large percent of the motorcyclist population, where it was mostly younger drivers a few years ago.

The most important steps a motorcyclist can take are to drive at safe speeds, place a sufficient distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you, wear a helmet and avoid stunts. Trying to show off often makes other motorists aggressive toward you.
